Hitomi Hoshino, a 16-year-old high school student with an interest in mysticism, experiences strange dreams at night.  A mysterious temple, a tremendous jewel, a shadowy prince...the images trouble her, and a strange incantation keeps echoing in her mind.  One day-during a simply fortune telling at school-Hitomi feels a magical pull, and in a shocking moment she is pulled from her body.  She wakes up in a strange world where the Earth hangs in the sky and a headstrong prince asks her to power his god.  Where is she?  Why has she been transported?  And will she really be able to wake the deity Escaflowne?
Review:
One of two concept mangas for what would late become the anime The Vision of Escaflowne.  One was more shonen (this one) and the other was more (shoujo).  The anime follows somewhat follows this one.
It is very interesting to see how much the characters changed.  Generally anime series follow the charater designs very closely. Frankly, I think Hitomi with long black hair and glasses in this version is much cuter than the anime versions.  Ecsaflowne it self is quite different,  Hitomi is now the power supply for the Ecsaflowne, and none of the guymelif seem to have swords like in the anime.
Some events are the same, yet are done very differently.   This is some rare case where seening the anime first doesn't ruin reading the manga (or vice versia).
     Don't miss it.
