Back)
Eighty
years have passed on Earth since the events chronicled in Macross: Do You
Remember Love? The descendants of the Zentraedi/Meltrandi conflict have
established a new society with the people of Earth. When alien invaders
identified as renegade Zentraedi threaten this uneasy alliance, the Super
Dimensional Fortress Macross must resurrect itself after generations of
inactivity to fight against the enemy forces.
Hibiki Kanzaki, an investigative reporter for Scramble News Network (SNN)
is caught up in the battle when he inadvertently allies himself with Ishtar,
an enigmatic Zentraedi princess. Enlisting the help of spirited Valkyrie
pilot Silvie Gena, Hibiki rushes to save Ishtar from imminent "reprogramming"
by hostile Zentraedi. Silvie and Hibiki must also broadcast the truth about
Zentraedi invasion and convince the powerful military complex U.N. Spacey
to reactivate the Macross fortress and defend Earth one last time. |
Review:
This is
one of those titles it seems that people love it or hate it. I founds
it to be pretty good, I don't love it, but I certainly don't hate it.
The "Movie Version" is the six episodes shown one right after the other
(unedited) with only the one opening animation and one ending animation.
The odd thing is that it kept all the eyecatches. Anyway, which ever
you watch it's basically the same thing.
I thought that this worked very well as a Alternate Universe (like in Gundam)
to Macross Plus and 7. It's really interesting to see that eighty
years later the U.N. Spacey are basically using refitted the same VF-1
Valkyries from the original series. compared to the large numbers
of new variable fighters seen in Macross Plus and 7, and that was only
forty years later.
Overall,
the scope of the story is a mishmash of various relationships shown in
the original series compacted, tweaked and repackaged. However, this
is very well done and the view from the press and reporters' point of view
is a very nice touch. I would certainly recommend this as a rental,
provided you have seen either the original series or Do You Remember Love. |
